Google's AI training initiative is designed to build a strong foundation in digital literacy, helping teachers to learn how to use artificial intelligence safely, responsibly and effectively. The programme aims to boost educator confidence, ease administrative burnout and prepare for an AI-integrated workforce.
While the curriculum uses Google tools like Gemini for Education and Gemini Notebook for hands-on, practical applications, it is designed to teach broad, tech-agnostic AI concepts, critical thinking and responsible use policies that apply across any digital learning ecosystem.
The training is broken into short, non-sequential micro-learning modules designed to fit into busy academic schedules. It is split into three main categories: foundational understanding, pedagogical applications (grade-level specific for primary and secondary education) and administrative applications.
- Primary and secondary educators: Sessions last 10–15 minutes.
- Higher education faculty: Sessions last 30–45 minutes.
The programme offers self-serve individual pathways or a comprehensive instructor-led curriculum via the Google for Education Learning Centre. Both tracks award a digital certificate badge after a short quiz is completed.
The online training and facilitation guides are 100% free of charge for all. Google is fully funding the creation of the Google Educator series content development to scale AI literacy for educators.
This programme stands out due to its educator focus and flexible, standard-aligned architecture:
- Educator-centred: Each session is focused on a single, real-world educator use case of AI.
- 'Snackable' content: Designed to be completed in short bursts during the school day rather than sacrificing personal weekend time.
- Stackable learning: Modules can be taken independently or combined into multi-hour workshops for district-wide professional development days.
